Alan is recognised internationally as a leading independent authority on renewable energy. Of his thirty-five years’ experience in construction, he has spent more than twenty years specialising in renewable energy.

Alan founded the firm in 1994, and over the last two decades has advised clients across a range of renewable technologies and markets in areas including; project management, technical due diligence and business strategy. His core area of work and passion remains in improving safety performance in the renewable energy sector. Alan continues to spend half of his time working with clients on projects around the world.

Alan is co-chair of the AWEA Offshore Safety Sub-Committee, and sits on the RenewableUK and NWEA Offshore Safety Committees. Alan was elected to Fellowship of The Association of Project Safety in 2007. He is a regular speaker at major renewable events throughout Europe, Asia and the USA.

Robert Waddington is a co-founder of PMSS based from our Bath office and has over 25 years experience in the power generation industry. He has contributed significantly to building the success and reputation of the firm, and has played a significant role in the emergence and maturing of the renewable energy sector globally.

Since joining the firm over 15 years ago, Rob has worked with many renewable technologies and advised clients and projects across Europe, Asia and the USA. During that time, Rob has specialised in providing project management and engineering support to onshore and offshore wind clients, and providing due diligence services and transaction support for banks and financial institutions.

Rob holds a BEng (Hons.) in Mechanical Engineering from University of Glamorgan. Before PMSS, Rob held senior positions at Zond Energy where he was responsible for wind construction and operations in Northern Europe. Rob currently serves as Chairman of the RenewableUK Operations and Asset Management Group.

David Bean was appointed to the board of PMSS as a Director in 2003. He is no stranger to senior management roles: immediately upon completing his PhD in Mechanical Engineering, David was seconded to manage an R&D programme for The Canadian Defence Department with the MoD and NASA.

David joined the renewable energy sector in 1994 with National Wind Power (now npower renewables ltd) where he was Head of Offshore and Project Manager for the North Hoyle Offshore Wind Farm – the UK’s first commercial-scale project – from inception through to construction.

Since joining PMSS David has advised on the majority of UK offshore wind projects and also leads the negotiations with UK Government on offshore wind decommissioning and residual liability for the BWEA.

Robert Price was appointed to the board of PMSS as Company Secretary in 2006 and brings to the PMSS leadership team a great breadth and depth of strategic financial and commercial experience, with wide practical experience gained across working in both public and private sectors, covering Law to Engineering to construction leaving him perfectly placed for a position at PMSS.

Robert’s track record of senior roles in accountancy, corporate governance and finance embraces a diverse range of sectors and is invaluable in our work with a similarly varied range of projects and clients.

Robert’s multitude of qualifications in Business Administration, Finance and Financial Modelling in addition to carrier experiences enables him to play a decisive role in managing the structured growth of PMSS and its associated companies.

Nick Chivers leads the Health & Safety team at PMSS. Nick is a highly qualified and experienced Health & Safety professional who joined the company following his degree at University of Southampton. Nick has been advising on health & safety in the renewable energy and construction industries throughout his entire career.

Nick has acted as Health & Safety Manager, CDM Coordinator and Health & Safety Advisor for an extensive range of project developers, utilities, contractors, turbine manufacturers and blue-chip organisations globally. His experience covers the full renewable energy spectrum and includes onshore and offshore wind, wave and tidal energy and general construction.

Nick is a member of the Association of Project Safety, the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health and the International Institute of Risk & Safety Management.

Huub den Rooijen is a seasoned wind energy professional who was project director for the first offshore wind projects in both the UK and the Netherlands.

Graduating in astrophysics from University of Utrecht (Netherlands) in 1984, and joining Shell shortly after as a geophysicist before moving to Shell Renewables in 1998.

Pioneering the first offshore wind investment for Shell at the Blyth Offshore Wind Farm in 2000 – the first wind turbines anywhere in the North Sea, Huub was the project director for the delivery.

Since 2001 Huub was the Manager of Wind Power Development at Shell and Managing Director of the Noordzeewind project – the Netherlands’ first offshore wind farm.

Huub co-operated in the establishment of the BWEA’s first offshore wind working group and featured in the Discovery Channel documentary “Building the Future – the Energy Solution”.

Steven is renowned industry expert with 20 years of achievement in environmental management, research and consultancy in coastal and marine waters globally, with strong technical focus in offshore Renewables. Prior to joining PMSS, Steven held positions senior director and Board Member positions with Applied Marine Sciences Ltd and Emu Ltd.

Currently, Steven is the environmental manager on the Eneco Round 3 offshore wind park and advisor on a number of inter-connector projects, and onshore cable routes throughout the UK. He provides advice to RenewableUK’s and foreign governments on topics including consent and licensing, environmental policy, fisheries and research. And has worked for a number of offshore wind projects including Hornsea and Dogger Bank Round 3 and Neart na Gaoithe.

He was instrumental in developing UK Government methodologies for ZAP guidance for Round 3, the Water Framework Directive, Marine Spatial Planning Pilot and is a specialist in cumulative impacts and Regional Environmental Assessments. Steven is author of numerous scientific papers in these fields.

Nick Fleming is the leader of the Technical Services department at PMSS. Nick’s experience covers a wide range of disciplines within the renewable energy industry including project development, financial, technical and economic analysis, as well as due diligence.

Prior to joining PMSS, Nick gained in-depth knowledge and a range of practical application skills with industry-leaders such as wind energy pioneers Zond Energy (now GE Wind, the largest wind turbine manufacturer in the USA); Enron and TXU; Your Energy Ltd, a renewable energy start-up; and Renewables East, a not-for-profit agency.

Nick has extensive experience in the development and economic analysis of wind project portfolios and the project management of technical and environmental assessment. He is well-versed in taking responsibility for budgets and contracting with sub-consultants including legal counsel.

Nigel has worked in Renewables since 1997, with strong career achievements in development, construction, operations together with deep experience of financing and commercial management gained from years at GE Energy, This allows Nigel to input into project management at a number of levels and areas of expertise. His experience in the industry not only adds vital technical expertise but also invaluable commercial pragmatism and oversight into any project in which he participates.

Since joining PMSS in 2005, Nigel has been engaged in a variety of roles including Risk Management, Technical Design, Quality Management, Supply Chain Management & Procurement, on high profile projects such as Lynn, Inner Dowsing, Princes Amalia, London Array & Walney.

His international experience, including most of Europe, China, India and the USA allows a diversity of experience to be brought to projects which is normally hard to achieve.

Sebastian Chivers combines specialist renewable energy expertise with advanced management skills and project experience.

After an early career in professional golf, Sebastian joined the renewable energy sector in 2001 working on terrestrial wind projects in the UK during development and construction. In 2003 Sebastian started working in the offshore wind sector providing support for Vestas Offshore during the construction of North Hoyle – the UK’s first commercial-scale project. Since then, Sebastian has consulted for PMSS on over 20 offshore wind projects.

Sebastian was appointed to the PMSS board of directors in 2009, and was appointed as Senior Vice President of PMSS America in 2011 with responsibility PMSS’ operations in North America.

Sebastian is a member of the AWEA Offshore Wind Working Group and is a regular speaker at offshore wind events in Europe and the USA. Sebastian studied general management at Judge Business School at Cambridge University.

Martin Huss is a well known wind energy professional from Germany who has over a decade of experience in the wind energy sector.

Martin started with the (World’s no1 Turbine manufacturer) Vestas in 1997 holding several management positions including: the coordination of offshore activities in Denmark, large project management Italy and the US, and Project Director for Central Europe in 2002.

Martin joined offshore wind installation contractor A2SEA as Sales & Marketing Director and was quickly appointed to the Executive Board as Chief Sales Officer and Managing Director of A2SEA Deutschland. From 2007, Martin worked as Managing Director of Airtricity Germany (now SSE Renewables) and Project Director of the 288MW Butendiek Offshore Windpark. In 2010, Martin was appointed Group Supply Chain Executive of SSE Renewables.

Martin joined PMSS in 2010 as Managing Director of PMSS Deutsche Wind Consult GmbH.
