Huub joined Shell Exploration & Production in 1984 and worked as a senior geophysicist until 1997. In 1998 he was tasked with exploring options for marine renewable energy investment that met Shell’s criteria; offshore wind was subsequently supported by the company.
Huub successfully pioneered the first offshore wind investment for Shell at the Blyth Offshore Wind Farm in 2000 – the first wind turbines anywhere in the North Sea. Huub was the project manager for the development and construction phases
Since 2001 Huub has been Manager of Wind Power Development at Shell. Major achievements have included overall leadership from inception to operations as managing director of the Noordzeewind project – The Netherlands’ first offshore wind farm - as well as asset management and development for over 1000MW of onshore and offshore wind projects in Europe and North America.
Huub was fundamental in the establishment of the BWEA’s first offshore wind working group and featured in the Discovery Channel documentary “Building the Future – the Energy Solution”. He views large-scale wind power as a “no-regret” option in the pursuit of sustainable energy sources, and is passionate about the need to integrate wind in the overall spectrum of energy sources.
Alan Chivers, CEO of PMSS commented
“Having worked extensively with Huub over the last 4 years, I am delighted to welcome him to PMSS. Huub’s experience in offshore wind over the last decade will further strengthen our industry leading team and services and provide strong leadership for our new offices in The Hague.”
